Hours Breakdown

This window breaks down into three distinct sections:
  1. A header detailing the conditions applied to calculating the totals. This will appear on the page if printed.
  2. The totals, broken down into ballooning/gliding/single-engine/multi-engine, then into day/night and crew capacities. Totals for each category are shown in brackets after the title. The totals are shown in the order: hours - number of sectors - distance. Categories will be hidden if there are no hours to display.
  3. A form to select and change options. The default date range is from the first to last entries found in your log and simulator log. Clicking on the 'Start of Log' and 'End of Log' buttons resets these dates. The 'Today' buttons insert today's date into the corresponding date box. Alternatively, you can type in any date.
Check boxes provide more options, such as including previous experience or provisional hours in the totals. Factor Hours allows the factoring of flights where the '% Hours Claimed' is less than 100% (e.g. heavy long-haul sectors) for experience purposes. Only hours are factored, not number of sectors or distances. By default, 'excluded' hours are counted for experience purposes, but can be excluded if required.
Clicking 'Start of Log' will automatically check the box 'Include Previous Experience'. Conversely, clicking 'Today' or manually changing the 'Start Date' will uncheck the previous experience option.
At the bottom are buttons to select display options: The screenshot above shows the 'All' option, with three rows of data. The top row is hours, the middle ros number of sectors, and the bottom row distances.

If any search criteria have been applied to the database, these will equally be applied to the hours summary. This allows calculation of total hours for complex queries. For example, to find total hours on a particular aircraft type, simply search the main log for flights on that type, then recalculate the hours summary. A warning will appear at the top of the hours summary page 'Flights filtered and only search results included' to advise that the totals shown are conditional on some search criteria.

Beware of entering conflicting criteria in the database search and hours summary options. For example, searching the database for provisional flights only, and unchecking 'include provisional flights' will return totals of zero, as the two options are mutually exclusive. Similar caution should be exercised when searching by date range, particularly as the two date ranges entered may overlap, giving a non-zero but incorrect total.

After applying search criteria, or changing any options, click 'Recalculate' to display the new totals.
