Add Flight
Database -> View Main Log
Database -> Add Flight (keyboard shortcut 'A')
If there are no previous flights in the database, Date will default to today's date, Crew Capacity to 'PiC', % Hours Claimed to 100%, Landing Pilot to 'yes', and all other boxes will be blank.
If previous flights exist in the database, Date, Pilot in Command, Co-Pilot or Student, Crew Capacity, Exclude Hours, Provisional Data, Instrument Flight and % Hours Claimed will default to the values of the last flight added. From and To Airfields will be reversed from the previous flight, assuming a return trip.
Pressing the 'Enter' key in any box except Comment will have the same effect as clicking the 'Save and Next' button. Pressing 'Enter' in the Comment box will start a new line of text in the comment.
Pressing the Up or Down cursor keys in the Date box will increment or decrement the date accordingly. Alternatively, use the pop-up calendar to select a date. See
data entry for more details.
When entering aircraft and airports, the details will be checked against the PilotLog databases, and feedback given as follows:
- Verified aircraft and airports will have their details displayed above the input box.
- User-entered aircraft and airports will have their details displayed, and be highlighted in green (Alexandria above).
- Unrecognised aircraft and airports will be highlighted in red (G-XXXX above). You can enter new aircraft and airports into the database.
- For airports only, if there are several possible matches (London, above), the entry will be highlighted in yellow and an option provided to select from the matches (see below). Select the correct airport from the list, and it will be displayed in place of the text entered.
The highlight colours are consistent with those used elsewhere, as described in the
Log Colour Key.
The meanings of the check boxes are as follows:
- Autoland - marks the flight as a successful automatic landing.
- Exclude hours - marks the flight as non-accountable for flight duty limitations (e.g. private light aircraft flying). It will still be included in total hours.
- Provisional data - marks the flight data as incomplete or inaccurate. Hours will not be included in any calculations.
- Instrument flight - Marks the flight as being under IFR when calculating hours totals.
- Landing Pilot - Indicates that you landed the aircraft at the end of the flight. This is checked automatically depending on the selected crew capacity, but can be manually changed if required. This information is used to monitor numbers of landings.
'% Hours Claimed' allows for only part of a flight to be claimed towards total experience if, for example, you operated as a heavy crew member. The hours are only factored when calculating hours totals, not for flight time limitations or when calculating your Grand Total hours in the log book.
Clicking on 'Discard Changes' will close the 'Add Flight' window. If you have made any changes, you will be asked to confirm this before your changes are lost.
Clicking on 'Save and Next' will save the flight to the database, and reset the 'Add Flight' window ready to add the next flight.
Clicking on 'Save and Exit' will save the flight to the database, and close the 'Add Flight' window.
If there are any errors in the entries, a warning message will pop up to advise. See
data entry for details of acceptable data formats.
